Welcome to Maz, Al and Laura's mad dash up a mountain! But not just any mountain, the biggest mountain in the world - MOUNT EVEREST!

In September 2014 Mhairi Jack, Alan Long and Laura Hastings will be making the 18 day trek to to the base camp of Mount Everest in Nepal, all to raise funds for Yorkhill Children's Hospital. This isn't just a Sunday stroll folks, with temperatures in excess of 30 degrees during the day and dropping to minus 10 at night, altitude sickness will be a constant threat as we walk for 6 - 8 hours each day to ascend to a height of 17,598 feet above sea level - that's FOUR times the height of Ben Nevis!!

Along the way we are aiming to raise a whopping £12,000 for Yorkhill Hospital, to fund the incredible work they do and support the daily miracles they perform with sick kids.

This is first post of our journey folks, so add this page to your favourites and follow as we go. And more importantly,

Singing Fa La La La La La La La La - Sainsburys, Strathaven - Monday 23rd Dec 2013

The people of Strathaven were subjected to the singing delights of Mhairi, Laura, Alan, a few other family members, and 3 cadets from 1 Pl RSB.
From Frosty the Snowman to We Wish you a Merry Christmas to Jingle Bells....we rocked Sainsbury's with our un-organised, sometimes very un-tuneful carolling. The Stravonians however, appreciated our joyful efforts and fun we were having and dug deep into their pockets. In a couple of hours we raised £206.

Bag Pack - Morrisons, Crossmyloof - Monday 23rd Dec 2013

The people of Crossmyloof were grateful for our bag packing skills in Morrisons on Christmas Eve Eve. Alan, Laura, Mhairi and some willing family assistants packed groceries like professionals for donations for Yorkhill Children's Charity. The generous donations of the customers helped us raise £853. We are edging ever closer to our target. :o)

TRAINING WALK 4 - Ben Lomond - Monday 25th November 2013

We have an addition to our team..........we have been joined by Mini-Yomp, Laura Hasting's. So, Alan and I thought why not take her up a Munro, on her first training hike, in brand new boots.

Laura done awesomely well on her first hike, and with some minor adjustments to her tights, a couple of plasters and a spare pair of Uncle Al's socks, we were at the top in no time. Even in the ice and snow (you can tell they are from the same gene pool, a little bit of Bambi on Ice going on).

A nice crisp day for it. With all the emergency essentials Jelly Beans, Fruit Pastilles, Pig Pens and 2 Bars of Chocolate, we were set - well for a sugar rush at least.
Yomper, Mini-Yomp & Yompette..we made it!!!
The top is in sight.... :o)

Phew...!!!!

Coffee Morning & Cake Sale - Sat 9th Nov 2013

Coffee/Tea and some delicious home baking??? Yes please. :o)

A coffee morning & cake sale held in the Rankin Church Hall on a miserable November Saturday raised £459.55 for Yorkhill Children's Charity.

There was a truly spectacular array of cakes to be enjoyed. I (yompette) was over-whelmed by the generosity of my family, friends and neighbours. Cakes, scones, pancakes, tombola prizes and donations....thank you so very much.

Thank you to all who turned out, and came in to enjoy some coffee, cake and some witty banter. It may not have been as busy as I hoped. But I still managed to raise a whopping amount for the charity. So everyone who attended really splashed the cash, and it's very much appreciated.

Bungeeeeeeeeeeee - Sunday 6th October 2013

A very brave cadet from 1 Pl RSB Army Cadets jumps from the 150ft Titan Crane with only an elastic band round her ankles. Amy Robertson took on this epic Bungee Jump to help her favourite Sgt Instructor raise funds for Yorkhill Children's Charity. Well done Amy for raising over £200's, your efforts are very much appreciated.

Ready...
Steady....

GO...!!!

Great Scottish Run 10K - Sunday 6th Sept 2013

Yompette takes to the streets of Glassgow to run (jog) a 10K in the hope of raking in a bit more cash and achieving a personal best in the 10K. Both objectives achieved. Yipee....!!!!!!
All it takes is a bit of text and Facebook bullying and some very generous people stick their hands in their pockets and dig out a few pounds. Thank you. :o)

Ready to Roll.........

TRAINING - WALK 3 - Tinto Hill - 18th Sept 2013

A favourite wee hill for me and the terriers. A frequent haunt of mine. But Alan was a Tinto Hill virgin. Well no more, we reached the top in under an hour. Very impressed, especially  since it was sooooo windy, and fairly chilly, but thankfully no rain.
And Alan, it's not my fault they closed, completely demolished and removed any trace of the pub with the pink elephant barmaid.

Up yonder distant hill.....

Perching on Peak 1

Peak 2

Hide the death stare and smile please....??

Cold and very windy...brrrrr!!!!

You can pick your next hill from the top.

Bag Pack, ASDA Larkhall, 14th September 2013

Army Cadets from 1 Pl RSB generously agreed to give their time and half of their hard earned detachment funds to assist their totally bonkers Sgt Instructor to get nearer to her fundraising target. Your time and hard work is very much appreciated by me and £277.75 was raised for Yorkhill Hospital. WooHoo and Thank You :o)

TRAINING - WALK 2 - Cochno Hill - 10th Sept 2013

Cochno Hill - well what can I (Mhairi) say?? Don't let me navigate might be a good start. So over a few fences, managed to outskirt a field of horses, but couldn't avoid the thorny bushes (ouch) before hitting the right path. Sorry Alan, but you had a map too.....lol
A longer more up and down route, passing a few reservoirs and a fantastic outlook over Glasgow city, but we made it with light fading fast. A quick walk back down, and a where the hell is the car moment and a huge sign of relief breathed on locating it in the pitch black. :o)
